Juliet Kim began her musical journey when she was just four years old, following in her older siblings' footsteps, who were already taking violin lessons. At the age of eight, Dr. Kim began her pre-college studies at the Colburn School where she continued her education until graduating high school. At the Colburn School, Dr. Kim was the first and sole recipient of the Wesley Bing Leung Scholarship Award for Leadership, which was awarded due to her orchestral leadership. Additionally, Dr. Kim was awarded the Herbert Zipper Scholarship in conjunction with the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation during her time at the Colburn School. For her undergraduate studies, Dr. Kim attended Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music, earning a BM in Violin Performance, and a minor in Child Development. While at Vanderbilt, Dr. Kim was graciously awarded the Potter Opportunity Award, allowing her to continue her studies at various festivals throughout the summer months. For her MM and DMA, Dr. Kim attended Boston University, where she was a Graduate Teaching Assistant, providing private violin lessons to undergraduate students; furthermore, Dr. Kim was also a coach for Boston University's All-Campus Orchestra.
As a performer, Dr. Kim has had the privilege to perform both domestically and internationally. Her musical travels have taken her to various countries, including Italy, Austria, Czechia, and Poland. She has appeared regularly as a section violinist with the Boston Chamber Symphony and the Boston Civic Symphony, as well as served as the concertmaster for Boston Ballet’s Next Generation Orchestra for multiple years.

Research

Juliet Kim's doctoral research focused on composers whose works were repressed by oppressive regimes, concentrating particularly on the political context and performance history of Ottorino Respighi's works. As an individual who is passionate about studying and performing music by historically underrepresented individuals, Dr. Kim continues to research and actively pursue this research topic. Additionally, she is committed to introducing her students to diverse repertoire, as she feels strongly that this type of exposure is vital to students’ breadth of musical knowledge.
